Star Trails
private collection
Artist statement: Star trails are an amazing visual phenomena created with time-lapse photography. By aiming the camera towards the north (or south) pole, the rotation of the earth causes the stars to appear as circular streaks centered around the pole. The resulting image shows the movement of the stars through time. Star trails show a variety of color and width. The different colors reflect the temperature of the stars, with cooler stars appearing more red and hotter stars being blue. A star with brighter intensity will produce a wider star trail. Techniques & materials: Stitched applique, fused raw-edge applique, machine stitching. Cotton fabrics, eco-felt batting, cotton thread, rayon thread, hologram metallic thread.
